My graduate training in psychology was at the University of Illinois, in Champaign, Illinois, where I received my doctorate. Before that I attended the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, earning a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling. My pre-doctoral internship was at the Counseling Center at Michigan State University. After receiving my doctorate I returned to the Counseling Center at MSU to take a temporary full time position before entering private practice. My bachelors degree was in Elementary Education from Colorado College in Colorado Springs. After college I spent four years teaching fourth grade before becoming a stock broker for Merrill Lynch for four years. These different careers have given me a broad perspective in working with clients. I spent two years working at a nursing home doing therapy with the residents and providing supervision to both Masters level therapists and to limited licensed psychologists. For seven years I was one of two facilitators of the MSU Pet Loss Support Group. While I do not regularly facilitate this group anymore, I do often draw on my experience from working with this group in helping my clients deal with loss and grief. Since 1999 I have been an Assistant Professor at Michigan State University in the Department of Counselor Education. I have taught practicum and internship classes, and I supervise Masters level students.
